BELIZE CANE STRIKE OFFICIALLY LIFTED


The Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association is officially lifting the strike of cane deliveries to the Belize Sugar Industries Limited. A meeting was held with the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Gasper Vega and all sugar stakeholders on Friday afternoon, February 6, 2009, The Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association, The Belize Sugar Industries Limited, The Ministry of Agriculture in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Rene Montero and The Sugar Industry Control Board.

The Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association and The Belize Sugar Industries have agreed to resume sugar cane deliveries on Sunday, February 9, 2009.

The “Core Sampler” that was at the heart of the strike will be replaced by a mechanism that will deliver the same results for better quality sugar.

Seems to me that the failure of leadership at various levels precipitated this saga! the bottom line is that the market environment for sugar has changed drastically and we either try to keep ahead or find another produce!
